And that has made all the difference.' Robert Frost

👋 Welcome to The Nexus Connection

Home education often begins with a set of questions.

  • “What does a good education actually look like?”

  • “Where do we even start with GCSEs?”

  • “Are we doing the right thing?”

  • “Can we really do this?”

  • "Why did we think we could do this?!"

We have asked ourselves the same questions many times.

The Nexus Connection is designed to be a space to help parents and students find answers to some of those questions and to explore what education can be beyond school walls. Whether you’re just starting out, rethinking a path that no longer fits, or supporting a teenager through a tough time, you're very welcome here.

Written by the small team behind Nexus Educate, specialists in online liberal arts teaching for home-educated students, this blog will, as is natural, have an element of bias. However, The Nexus Connection isn’t intended as a space to market our courses. We have nexuseducate.com for that (and please visit or get in touch if you would like to work with us!😁) The Nexus Connection is intended as a place to share ideas, insights and resources and to offer the kind of clarity that, even as qualified teachers, we wish we’d had when starting our home education journey.

We're hoping that this blog, to which we have added some adapted pieces from our newsletter, will develop into a sizeable resource. So, for ease of navigation (and because we couldn’t resist!) we’re splitting our content into four broad categories. Our idea is that you’ll find posts to:

  • 💡 INSPIRE learners with new ideas, updates, resources and links to engage and intrigue them.

  • 🔮 DISCOVER why particular objectives or regulations are in place through up to date reports, articles, links and comment on educational policy developments, exam board regulations and the various liberal arts curricula.

  • 🧭 EXPLORE the bigger picture of education in the liberal arts tradition. Read articles, reflections and information explaining how to help students develop knowledge, understanding and build analytical, evaluative and creative skills for academics and life.

  • 💎 ACHIEVE progress on your learning journey through seeing what effective liberal arts home learning can look like. Feel reassured that you are not alone. Read guest posts from students, teachers and parents/carers. Learn how meaningful home education experiences can make a world of difference in those all-too-often moments of doubt.

If you’re looking for clarity, encouragement, or simply some fresh ideas, we hope you’ll find them here. If you don't find what you need, let us know and we'll try to add it for next time.

Best wishes from everyone at Nexus Educate.

Many thanks for connecting.
